Colchester Zoo is now one of the finest Zoos in Europe due to its constant programme of development and has now won awards for Sustainable Tourism and also for its efforts in recycling and green practices from the East of England Tourist Board.
Their green practices are now include the rolling out of solar PV on new enclosures which started with the Tortoise enclosure in 2012 when the Zoo turned to Ecohill when they were reassured of our service and reputation through a number of personal recommendations when they were seeking out an installer to partner with.
Solar PV is the ideal solution for the zoo as Like the new Tortise enclosure, electricity is used for not only display and general lighting but also for heating and due to a lot of the animals requiring additional heating nearly all year round the zoo will benefit from not only savings on their electricity bills as it will use all of the electricity generated by the this system, the feed-in-tariff will be also be a great source of additional income for the zoo.
The system also includes a Marlec wireless generation display screen for public indication of the generation and carbon savings made by the solar system. The Tortoise enclosure was a 7kWp system comprising of Suntech 250 and SMA 3.0kW and 4.0kW TL inverters.
